Rights and Responsibilities
Student Rights
Students have a right to:
- Know what financial aid programs are available at Notre Dame of Maryland University;
- Know how individual financial need was determined, how the student's budget was created, and what resources were considered in the calculation of the student's need;
- Know the deadlines for submitting applications for each financial aid program available;
- Know what portion of the financial aid was received that must be repaid - if the aid is a loan, students have the right to know the interest rate, the total amount that must be repaid, the payback procedures, the length of time to repay the loan and when the repayment is to begin;
- Know how the school determines whether a student is making satisfactory progress, and what happens if they are not; and
- Request an explanation of the various programs in their aid package.
Student Responsibilities
Students must:
- Monitor their NDMU email account and respond to requests from the Office of Financial Aid;
- Reapply for aid every year;
- Complete all application forms accurately and submit them on time - there are no exceptions as this is a federal mandate,
- Provide correct information. In most instances, misreporting information on financial aid applications is a violation of federal law and may be considered a criminal offense punishable by jail and/or fines;
- Complete all additional documentation, verification, correction, and/or new information requested by either the Office of Financial Aid or the agency to which they submitted their application;
- Read and understand all forms requiring their signature and keep copies of all documentation;
- Accept responsibility for all signed agreements;
- Be aware of NDMU's refund procedures and the consequences of withdrawing from classes;
- Report any change in their status to the Office of Financial Aid;
- Report any financial aid received from outside sources to the Office of Financial Aid;
- Use any financial aid granted solely for educational expenses related to Notre Dame of Maryland University;
- Perform the work that is agreed upon in accepting a federal work-study award; and
- Repay all student loans regardless of whether they graduate or complete their Program of Study.
