Explores art of the major geographic regions and cultures of sub-Sahara Africa. Various mediums  are examined, including both wood and bronze sculptural figures, painted sculpture, ceremonial objects, power images, and bush spirit and  ancestor worship objects. In addition, the  evolving role of the artist in society is  discussed. Students will examine significant  African artworks in the National Museum of  African Art in Washington, D.C. or other local collections. Fulfills the general education requirement in fine arts.
