Examines the principles and practices of intercultural communication in face-to-face contexts, with emphasis on how culture shapes perception, identity, language, values, and social interaction. Drawing from sociological and social-psychological perspectives, the course introduces major theoretical approaches in the field and applies them to solve communication problems in cultrually diverse environments. Topics include verbal and nonverbal communication across cultures, identity formation, stereotyping and bias, conflict and negotiation, and adaptation in multicultural, organizational, and international settings. Fulfills General Education requirement in Intercultural Knowledge. [3 credits]
