Provides an interactive learning environment that will enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities required for selecting, reading, analyzing, evaluating, and promoting young adult literature. Students participate in and learn how to facilitate student-centered discussions, learning how adolescents discover and develop their own reading inetests. Students read book-length works from multiple genres that are written for and accessible to adolescents. Students examine what qualities make these works applicable and appropriate to the age, as well as what literary merit they carry for classroom use, collection development, and independent reading.
