The course will focus on the fundamentals of historical research and writing, and consider the differences between historical dissertations/research projects and other types of dissertation work. The course will orient students toward critical thinking, source analysis, historical interpretation and evidentiary thinking. The course will focus on how to formulate a histrical research project including the historiography. Students will also consider two major historical topics, the evolution of the Common School and the rise of Massifcation in the 20th century and analyze the historiography of these topics and how historians have studied them.
