Integrates content and practices from across the STEM disciplines with a focus on environmental science and systems thinking in this course. Designed for future and current educators, the course examines the interactions among physical, chemical, biological, political, and social forces that shape environmental issues locally and globally. Topics include ecosystem structure and function, climate change, pollution, resource management, and environmental justice. Emphasis is placed on the scientific principles underlying these issues and on the societal responses through policy, ethics, and civic engagement. Participants will explore strategies for translating complex environmental concepts into engaging, standards-aligned classroom experiences. The course supports the development of environmental literacy and engaged citizenship, preparing educators to foster inquiry, critical thinking, and responsible action in their students.
