PHRD-520: Public Health

This course provides a comprehensive overview of public health with a special focus on the pivotal role pharmacists play in promoting health and preventing disease. Topics covered include the social determinants of health, health care disparities, health promoton theories, and public health policies and laws. Students will explore public health at local, state, national, and global levels, gaining insights into epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, and principles of public health research. Special sessions will highlight the roles of pharmacists in global health, emergency preparedness, and lifestyle medicine. Through lectures, guest presentations, and practical projects, students will learn to integrate public health principles into pharmacy practice, culminating in a final presentation. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to public health initiatives and address current and future health challenges. Prerequisite: P3 standing.
