This course explores the language, cognitive, and developmental processes that support written language. Candidates examine the development of handwriting, spelling, written expression, composition, and self-regulation in writing, as well as factors that contribute to writing difficulties, including dysgraphia, language-based learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges, and transcription deficits. Emphasis is placed on understanding how students develop written languages skills, analyzing writing strengths and difficulties, and applying evidence-based practices to support assessment, instruction, and intervention for diverse learners.
