EDU-720: Advanced Methodology: Mixed Methods Design in Educational Research

This advanced graduate course provides an in-depth exploration of mixed methods research (MMR) as a systematic approach to educational research that integrates quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Grounded in the work of contemporary scholarship, the course emphasizes philosophical foundations, design typologies, and practical applications of MMR in social and educational contexts. Students will examine major MMR design types and evaluate their suitability for different research objectives. Through readings, case studies, and applied projects, students learn to articulate rationales for mixing methods, develop coherent research questions across strands, and consider ethical and validity issues unique to mixed methods studies. The course prepares students to develop a detailed MMR design that aligns problem statement and research rationale with mixed data collection, analysis, and integration strategy.
