IDS-275: Hrs: Representations of Women on Screen Post-World War II to Post-9/11

Explores the cultural representation of women in film and television from 1945 to the present. Through an analysis of film genres such as film noir, romantic comedies, and horror films, as well as television shows spanning generations, students will examine how representations of gender reflect and challenge dominant social norms. The course encourages cirical thinking about cultural shifts and their influence on gender portrayals, inviting students to draw connections between historical representations and their present cultural circumstances. Cultural artifacts such as The Big Sleep or Buffy the Vampire Slayer will provide a foundation for discussions on changing depictions of femininity, empowerment, and social roles over time.
