Examines how global authors have reimagined and rewritten they plays of Shakespeare. Students focus on global literary adaptations of Shakespeare in order to analyze how the plays have been reshaped to reflect local histories, languages, and social concerns. Emphasis is placed on close reading and comparative analysis, with attention to how texts acquire new meanings across linguistic and cultural contexts. This course meets the General Education requirement for Literature and Intercultural Knowledge. [ 3 credits ]
