Provides a holistic, person-centered approach to caring for childbearing individuals, newborns, and their families across pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, and neonatal periods. It integrates evidence-based practice, clinical judgment, cultural humility, and interprofessional collaboration to promote safe, equitable, high-quality maternal-newborn care. Building on prior coursework in the sciences, humanities, and foundational nursing practice, students apply key concepts--such as health promotion, family-centered care, and ethical decision-making--while engaging in clinical and simulation experiences that strengthen assessment skills, therapeutic communnication, and reflective practice within this specialty. Senior level undergraduate, ABSN, and HABSN nursing students only. Online for Hybrid ABSN program; face-to-face for Traditional BSN and ABSN programs.
