This course studies nutrition from the perspective of the community rather than the individual. The course covers the epidemiological and scientific basis for government-based policies on nutritional requirements and recommendations, the role of nutrition in health promotion and disease prevention, and strategies for improving the nutrition and health of communities. The course also includes an overview of health disparities, health equity and the impact of nutrition policy on population-wide eating habits. Prerequisite: NUTR-641. [ 2 credits ]
