The purpose of this course is to provide students with the foundational concepts and skills needed to practice pharmacy in the 21st Century as the role of the pharmacist expands and continues to change. In addition to one's knowledge of the scientific basis of practice, the ability to communicate and be an effective team member and leader is critical to the pharmacist's role as an educator, clinician and member of the health care team. As such, the processes of self and group assessment, team development and the use of effective communication strategies will be introduced in this course and reinforced throughout the curriculum. As a health care professional, the pharmacist must be able to take a leadership role within his/her own practice, profession and community at large. This course will provide students with the opportunity for self-exploration, exploration of leadership models, and discussion of the relevance of political advocacy to pharmacy practice. [ 2 credits ]
