This lecture-based, clinical course is designed to introduce nonprescription therapies, clinical assessment, and triage skills. A structured approach to self-care will be taught using established clinical processes. Students will learn the basic mechanisms of action, uses, precautions, important drug interactions, and adverse drug effects for commonly used nonprescription products and dietary supplements. This course will give students an understanding of how nonprescription and self-care products can be used safely and effectively and when a patient should be referred to other healthcare professionals.
