Nanomedicine, defined by the integration of nanotechnology and medicine, is emerging as the new frontier in the world of modern medicine. This course will introduce the basic concepts in nanotechnology and the challenges and opportunities in multidisciplinary approach in the education, training, and research in nanomedicine. It will then discuss the details of various common nanotechnolgies used in the research of reatment and diagnosis of human diseases, such as nanocarriers, bio-targeting agents, and molecular recognition elements, etc. Specific conditions, such as cancers and infectious diseases, commonly involved in nanomedicine research, will also be discussed in greater detail. Prerequisite: P-2, P-3 standing. [ 2 credits ]
