Elementary Education/TESOL

The Undergraduate Elementary Education/TESOL  program prepares educator candidates to become effective, reflective teachers of multilingual learners in elementary settings. Through focused coursework and clinically rich experiences, candidates develop strong foundations in TESOL pedagogy, linguistics, cross-cultural communication, and second language acquisition and teaching methodology.

The curriculum emphasizes both theory and practice, including evidence-based instructional strategies for language and literacy development, assessment of second-language proficiency, and the design of inclusive learning environments that support culturally and linguistically diverse students. Candidates also learn to integrate technology to enhance language learning and engagement, apply key principles of linguistics to classroom instruction, and use data to plan, differentiate, and monitor student growth.

Graduates are prepared to meet initial licensure expectations and to support English learners through developmentally appropriate instruction, collaboration with families and school teams, and responsive, asset-based teaching practices.
